I always wake up early when I camp so I was up not too long after the sun. I found some coffee at the office so I was ready to sit around and enjoy the morning. It took quite a while for everyone to get up and get in their faire outfits. The elves were just wearing renaissance costumes today. Lauri braided several people hair until we had to leave to meet some people. I dropped Mike and Lauri at the faire and drove to Riverside to go on the volkswalk there. I had a bit of a panic as I couldn't get the keys out of the car. Finally I saw the little button behind the keys. It's hard when you only drive once in a while. There's always something new. The walk goes through the town and then up Mt Rubidoux. It was already warm as I didn't get there till 1:00 PM. It's always so much warmer inland than on the coast. I walked through the town which has been fixed up quite nice. There is a nice mall that goes through the center of town and by the Mission Inn. It was all very Spanish. There was a little pizza place where I got some lunch since I was hungry. I next walked through an older residential area and then into a historic area. There was a nice mix of home all through these. I enjoy looking at other people's houses. I sometimes worry about people thinking I'm up to something since I do check out the houses closely at times, but if they don't want people to look at their houses, they shouldn't make them look nice. The road started going up Mt Rubidoux and from here on it was a long hot walk. I was glad I brought two bottles of water. The path wound around the mountain (large hill) which was very bare and had virtually no shade. There was a great view across the valley, even with some smog in the air. At the top was the Peace Tower and an amphitheatre with a cross that's used for Easter services. I didn't rest long as I wanted to get someplace cool. Going down was so much better. It was nice to be able to look across the town. There were quite a few people on the road. It looks like cars were allowed to come up it but it's only pedestrian now, which is good as it is very narrow. I saw several foot and bike trails leading off. They were quite steep and would make a good workout for the winter. I wound down the other side of the mountain and then walked past a cemetery to the hospital where the walk started. It was so nice to get a cool coke out of the ice chest. It was a good walk. Riverside is a nice town to walk through. I drove back to the faire to spend a couple hours there before it closed. Lauri was at the yarn booth where she was spinning yarn and showing people how it's done. She also crochets hair scrunchies which have been selling quite well. She looks so pretty with the long dress and bodice and her long hair. We head back hot and tired. It's been a long weekend but interesting. I wouldn't go to a renaissance faire by myself so it's nice to go to one with my kids. It's packing up time when we get back as I fly back to Tucson tomorrow and Lauri will drive up to her school for a day or two to finish up the semester.
