Tuesday, July 2, 2002No electricityI got home to no electricity. I rode my bike so I was hot. I was so depressed. My apartment wasn't cool but it wasn't warm either so the electricity must have just gone off. I almost went to to the mall for a while but was too tired so I took a cold shower. Well, a cool shower. Even with the temps outside still over 100 a cold shower was too cold. I never could understand people who did that. The only explanation I could think of was that it was guys who were really horny. Really, really horny. Anyway I took a cool shower and then waited on the phone afterwards to hear it would three hours before the electricity came on. Since there wasn't enough light to read comfortably I made some phone calls. I couldn't read or get on the internet and it was too hot to go outside, what else could I do? Within an hour the electricity came on. Yeah! Whoopee! It was getting a bit stuffy inside. I made some greens this evening. I think I had collard. Greens with Molasses. Wash, stem, and coarse chop 1/2 bunch of greens (collard, kale, mustard, spinach, turnip, etc. -- I used collard greens). Peel and coarsly chop 1/2 onion. Heat 1 to 2 Tablespoons of olive oil in a large frypan over medium heat. When oil is hot, add the chopped onions and stir. Cook, stirring, until onion is translucent, usually about 8 minutes. When onions are translucent, add: Sprinkle of garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon salt Sprinkle of red pepper Sprinkle of ground black pepper Stir in then add: 1/2 teaspoon molasses 1/2 Tablespoon white wine vinegar 1/4 cup beer Mix well. Then add greens and mix well. Cook uncovered over medium or medium-low heat for 30 minutes stirring occasionally.
It was very good except even the sprinkle of red pepper made it a bit too hot. I like the just barely sweetness of it.
