Poetry from art

I rode my bike to work today despite the heat and coughed all the way there and all the way back. It is so irritating. I'm riding along and then I just can't stop coughing. I get a little air in my lungs and they start trying to cough everything up. I certainly don't look like a very healthy exerciser.

I went to a poetry reading at noon. It was at the UA Museum of Art and the poets, members of a poetry collective in Tucson, had written poems about pictures in an exhibit about summer. There were four poets and they were very different, even about the same picture, which was very interesting. There were about a dozen people there and we had little canvas stools to sit on which was nice since we could pick them up and carry them from room to room as we moved to different pictures. It's was nicely done and it helped me look at the pictures differently.

Biking Home in the Heat

The heat enveloped me
To sooth away the cold of the air conditioning.
The hot wind hit my face
And I welcomed the warmth entering my bones.

Too hot soon.
Too much heat.
Rush into the cool again.
The summer yo yo.
