Christmas Eve

It's was midnight when I got to bed last night but I slept good. I was up and ready to go by 8:00 this morning as we had a full day. Mike and Lauri picked me up at 8:30 and we went to Lauri's aunt's house to open presents with Lauri's sister and her husband as they were leaving for Portland to spend Christmas with his family.

Lauri's mother, her fiance, father, stepmother, aunt, two cousins and grandmother were there and we had a brunch and watched Aurora and Ward open their presents and we opened their presents to us. This took all morning and then everyone rushed off to airplanes and pre wedding visits with ministers and to see "The Nutcracker Ballet".

Lauri's 10 year old niece was in "The Nutcracker Ballet" so we had to see it. I enjoyed it. It's been a while since I've seen more than snippets on television. I had even forgotten parts of it. Afterwards it was fun to watch all the young ballet students in their costume being blase about their performances and the pride of their parents and friends.

There was more last minute shopping and then Mike and Lauri spent Christmas Eve with me at Emily's home. We wrapped and decided who would get what presents and stuffers. I'm always at a bit of a loss since I have never had major family get togethers at Christmas. Even when I was growing up I spent most Christmases at the children's home and not with my parents. Usually I only had a brother or two that were family to spend them with. They were ok but I never really learned all the nuances of large family gatherings.
