Abortion or the environment

I'm really at a loss right now as far as the presidential candidates are concerned. Two things that I care very much about are so much at odds when it comes to voting for a president. I am strongly pro-life as I feel that abortion kills our soul. I am also strongly in favor of protecting the environment, including the national parks, mounments and forests.

There is not one candidate that cares about both. Bush seems to be the most pro-life but he is also very poor on the environmental issues. One of his environmental advisors says that we should auction off all our national lands, including national mouments. Oh, sure, like an environmental group is going to have to money to bid against a corporation.

McCain doesn't seem to be for either and Gore and Bradley are pro-abortion. This choices suck. I don't even like Gore and the chances that Bradley will get the nomination are pretty slim. I'm not sure that Bush is really pro-life either or is just saying that to get the religious right vote. I do think abortion is wrong, but if the environment gets worse, people will get more abortions. I don't know. Right now I'm just going to wait and see.

I've been reading some environmental magazines today but they are so full of doom and gloom. Even the ones that are supposedly geared toward solutions instead of just problems, spend most of their time saying that there is no hope and nothing we can do will save the world. I don't think so. I think we can make it, though it's going to take everyone, not just "environmentalists". It's going to take cattlemen and corporations and the military (they have control of lots of land) and conservatives. The environmentalists are going to have to come to terms with this instead of being holier than thou.

The pro-life are also going to need the help of everyone. They need jobs for people and they need education for people and they need a decent environment for people. It's been shown than pregnancies drop when people have access to better jobs and better places to live, but the main factor is always the education of women and giving them access to health care and birth control. I am very much in favor of birth control, I just don't think that abortion is a good form of good control.
